Organized in collaboration with the Konrad
Adenauer Foundation (KAF), The Lebanese Center for Policy Studies
conducted a workshop on "Privatization and State Regulation:
The Telecommunication Sector." The workshop addressed the process
and strategy of privatization in Lebanon in its current status and in
light of the recently adopted privatization law. The workshop focused
on the telecommunication sector as one of the first proposed sectors
to be privatized, and featured presentations on the institutional requirements
and on the economic and social impacts of privatizing telecommunications
in Lebanon.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Minister
of Post and Telecommunications, Dr. Issam Naaman. A large number
of experts and researchers were present, engaging in a national
debate on an important topic of relevance to Lebanon's economic
