The Lebanese Center for Policy Studies held on October 9-10, 2000 a workshop on "Globalization and Social Policies in the Arab World".

The workshop brought together a group of key experts on social policies from Morocco, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon. Participants presented interesting diagnoses of the problems of the labor markets in their respective countries and touched on some macro economic issues.  The meeting provided the opportunity to listen to the experiences of the International Labor Office in the Arab world in terms of its strategic perspective of "decent work" as well as its various employment programs in the Arab countries.

A concept paper was presented at the beginning of the meeting with the aim of identifying how globalization is impacting the Arab labor markets. Then, the participants presented the various strategies, policies, programs and actors that were working in their respective countries to alleviate the negative impacts of globalization.
