Roundtable: The Way Forward for the Healthcare Sector in Lebanon
- LCPS
The recent economic crisis and the political unrest have compounded the challenges to achieving universal healthcare coverage in Lebanon and crippled the Lebanese health sector.
The devaluation of the currency also rendered the public funds unable to provide healthcare coverage to its beneficiaries leading to an increase in catastrophic health expenditure. Moreover, the increase in political and economic instability has led to an exodus of human capital, particularly in the health sector. Consequently, the accessibility and quality of healthcare services continue to be jeopardized, threatening the health of thousands of the country’s residents.
Given the devastating impact of the healthcare sector crisis on population health outcomes, the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies in cooperation with the Knowledge to Policy (K2P) Center at the American University of Beirut (AUB) with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation will convene a three-hours closed experts’ roundtable to unpack the challenges of the healthcare sector and leverage opportunities for the way forward for the healthcare Sector in Lebanon. This dialogue is part of a wider sectoral study on “The Way Out of the Economic Crises in Lebanon” which examines various other sectors.
The closed round table discussion took place on Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
The dialogue is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with leading thinkers and doers in this field and is designed to provide ample opportunity to spark the type of insights that can only come about when all of those likely to be involved in or affected by future decisions about the issue can speak frankly with one another.
