Voter Turnout and Vote Buying in the 2018 Parliamentary Elections
LCPS invites you to watch a short animated video on the 2018 Parliamentary Elections focusing on voter turnout, voter loyalty, and vote buying. Voter mobilization and engagement remain pressing issues in Lebanese democracy, particularly among young people, who were not as likely to head to the polls as older citizens. Strong voter loyalty has served the interests of established parties, as 90% of Lebanese who cast ballots for a particular party in 2009 supported the same party in 2018. Moreover, the 2018 elections were also marred by irregularities, in particular vote buying, a practice which is endemic to the Lebanese electoral system.
